My Journey into Cybersecurity

I vividly recall the first time I played on a computer at home. I was twelve, and Minecraft was sweeping the globe. After relentless persuasion, my parents relented and bought me the game. As I sat down, everything seemed unremarkable—just a regular afternoon with a new game. Yet, this seemingly simple moment would unknowingly set the stage for my deep dive into the world of computers, eventually guiding my career path.

Growing up, I relished video games with friends, our competitive spirits driving us to vie for the grandest in-game houses and the richest virtual wallets. This competitive drive sparked my curiosity: could I find a way to outsmart my rivals? My search for an edge led me online, where I learned to modify game files and install mods that boosted my performance. As challenges escalated, I ventured into advanced techniques like memory tampering and code injection.

My growing intrigue with these hacks deepened my fascination with computers. From a young age, I was determined to build my own computer and decipher its complexities. This curiosity wasn't new; at eleven, I had dismantled a smartwatch my mother had just gifted me. She returned to find it in pieces, and, upon her startled inquiry, I explained my intent to understand its mechanics—fortunately, I managed to reassemble it perfectly.

By fifteen, I was developing mods for Minecraft using Java. My passion for technology only intensified over the years, evolving into a keen interest in cybersecurity. In May 2019, I enrolled in Cybersecurity at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. Those four years at college proved to be the most exhilarating and intellectually rewarding period of my life.

Cybersecurity Expertise

I am a highly skilled Cybersecurity professional specializing in Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR). My technical expertise spans a broad spectrum of programming languages, including Python, Java, C/C++, C#, SQL, PowerShell, Lua, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and Bash. This versatility allows me to quickly adapt to new syntaxes and environments, making me highly efficient in tackling diverse challenges.

Technical Proficiency

My proficiency extends to low-level operating systems and assembly language programming for both Linux and Windows platforms, as well as non-platform dependent environments. One of my notable projects involved building a computer from an old Intel CPU, wires, and a breadboard, and programming the EEPROM chip to display information on an LCD display using my own assembly code. Additionally, I have created various Arduino projects, such as temperature sensors, which showcase my innovative approach and technical ingenuity.

Professional Experience

Currently, I work as a DFIR consultant, undertaking a range of complex computer forensic activities. My role involves investigating business email compromises in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and on-premises Exchange servers. I also conduct ransomware investigations, analyzing up to 100 computers to determine threat actor activities, data exfiltration, and file access within networks. My investigations often extend to unique scenarios, such as the exploitation of firewalls and VPN devices, where I delve deep into vulnerabilities, understand exploitation methods, and develop detection algorithms to analyze large datasets and uncover threat actor behavior.

I am passionate about programming and continuously hone my skills through various projects, particularly those involving large-scale data analysis. Automation and innovation are core principles that drive my work. I constantly seek ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness, always asking how tasks can be done better and faster.
